UNDER CONSTRUCTION · DUBLIN 4
Shrewsbury Road, left as it was.
Six detached houses on one Ballsbridge plot, held well back from the pavement by the beech and holly that were already there.

One plot. Six houses. The setback untouched.
Shrewsbury Road is a short run of large detached houses on deep plots, and it has stayed that way because nobody has been permitted to build across the front gardens.
Clarendon holds that line. The six houses sit behind the existing beech and holly, so from the pavement the street reads as it did before we began.
Brick, stone and slate, because that is what stands here.
The materials follow the houses either side. Hand made brick, granite cills, natural slate and cast iron rainwater goods, all of which age rather than fail in Dublin weather.
Each house runs to about 5,800 square feet over three floors and a lower ground level, with a walled rear garden and covered parking for three cars.

What the street sees.
Photographed from the pavement and from inside the gates, at the hours the light is worth having.
Inside each house
Specified once, for all six, so nothing was quietly dropped on the later plots.
Ballsbridge, two minutes from the Dart.
Shrewsbury Road runs between Herbert Park and Sandymount, which is why the embassies took it and why the values have never come off.
- Sydney Parade station on the Dart, a short walk east
- Herbert Park and the RDS at the top of the road
- St Vincent's Private Hospital inside a mile
- Ballsbridge village, the embassies and the Aviva on foot
- Dublin Airport in about twenty five minutes off peak
